I’m Sara, a self-taught chef who moved from Italy to London in 2011. After working for several vegan restaurants and bakeries, I decided to start my own vegan food business based on supper clubs, cookery lessons, and market stalls. And so out of a passion for made-from-scratch slow vegan food with high quality ingredients, Pomodoro E Basilico was born.
My cooking is proper Italian, 100% vegan and home-made, with a strong link to Italian food traditions; yet, I am always open to new cuisines and influences to inform my ideas in the kitchen.
I grew up in the Italian region of Parmigiano and Prosciutto, where every big city and small town has their own “delis” with big counter fridges of fresh local products, but also “trattorie” (family run small restaurants) where the food is cooked with seasonal and local ingredients. At Pomodoro e Basilico I create vegan versions of the food found in these places, where everything is plant based and home-made.
You can find me in East London at The Boiler House on most Saturdays and Sundays, where I sell my ever popular vegan burgers, along with a rotating selection of pizza, baked goods, and sweets. I also run frequent supper clubs, which can be booked at EatWith and sell Italian artisan deli items, including vegan mozzarella and ricotta, through my etsy shop Jar Me Up.
